In order to better address research and capacity building needs at the local and subregional level, EERC is in the process of transferring its research and capacity building know-how to partners in Central Asia, Western CIS and the Caucasus. Launched in fall 2004, Applied Research Network - Central Asia was the first step in this process of building a reinforcing "network of networks". Now EERC is developing network further to other regions. The main goal of the Network is to increase the capacity of universities in the CIS region to conduct applied research for the needs of the local business community and government by honing the professional skills of junior faculty, improving their access to new articles and datasets, as well as peers and mentors in CIS. It will also contribute to the reform of economics education by introducing research into the classroom and helping build current business and policy concerns into the regular business and economics curricula.
